Cast a Line, Hook a Vacation Story

With seven miles of shoreline, calm canals, and easy access to the Gulf, Anna Maria Island is an angler’s paradise. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced fisherman, the waters here are teeming with redfish, snapper, mackerel, black drum, snook, trout, and amberjack, offering unforgettable fishing experiences for every skill level.

Rules, Regulations & Licenses

Before you cast your line, make sure you’re following Florida fishing regulations. A fishing license is required for most anglers, with additional permits needed for certain species.

Saltwater Fishing Licenses

A Florida saltwater fishing license is required when fishing in the Gulf or coastal waters, including Anna Maria Island. Additional stamps are needed for species like snook, crawfish, and spiny lobster. A tarpon stamp is required to keep a tarpon but not for catch-and-release fishing.

Freshwater Fishing Licenses

Visitors 16 and older who plan to fish in freshwater or brackish waters must have a Florida freshwater fishing license. Licenses can be purchased at local bait shops, sporting goods stores, or online at Go Outdoors Florida.

Exemptions

No license is required for:

  • Children under 16

  • Florida residents over 65

  • Florida residents fishing from shore or fixed structures

  • Guests fishing with a licensed charter captain

  • Florida residents in the Armed Forces on leave

  • Individuals certified as totally and permanently disabled

  • Non-residents fishing from a licensed pier

  • Florida residents wading in less than 4 feet of water

When in doubt, always check the latest rules on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website
